Deadline: June 1, 2006
Secretary’s Forecast Summary CDC-RFA-PS06-618 CDC’s Procurement and Grants Office has published a new funding opportunity entitled, “Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Prevention Projects for Young Men of Color Who Have Sex with Men and Young Transgender Persons of Color.” $9,000,000 will be available in FY2006 to fund up to thirty awards to non-profit and community-based organizations to: Provide effective HIV prevention services to young (up to age 24) men of color who have sex with men (YMCSM) and young (up to age 24) transgender persons of color who are at high risk for HIV infection or transmission.; Fund non-profit organizations to conduct selected, standardized HIV prevention programs for the above populations; and to complement HIV prevention activities and interventions conducted by state and local health departments.

For complete program details, please see the full announcement on the CDC website at www.cdc.gov/od/pgo/funding/FOAs.htm. The estimated funding date is September 1, 2006. Applications must be received in the appropriate location by 4:00 p.m. on the application deadline date of June 1, 2006.

Applications for this program announcement are limited to community-based organizations (CBOs), public nonprofit, private nonprofit, faith-based, and tribal organizations, because of their credibility among individuals living with HIV and those at high risk for HIV infection. Nonprofit organizations and CBOs have proven their ability to access hard to reach populations that have traditionally suffered exclusion from mainstream interventions and other agencies.
