National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is Today, February 7th
The Kaiser Family Foundation reports that African Americans account for more AIDS diagnoses, people estimated to be living with AIDS, and HIV-related deaths than any other racial or ethnic group in the U.S. The percentage of AIDS diagnoses occurring among African Americans has risen from 25% in 1985 to approximately half in 2004. African American women are also especially affected, accounting for two-thirds(67%) of new AIDS cases among women. The updated fact sheet is available at www.kff.org/hivaids/6089.cfm .
