Public Input Sessions about Virginia’s HOPWA Program

A friend of mine and advocate for persons with disabilities, Bill Fuller, sent this note around this weekend …

As Bill says, "the decisions are made by those who show up." Will People Living wit HIV/AIDS show up? The future of HOPWA funding depends on it!!

Bill wrote …

People with disabilities and the groups that represent them have often been absent from the extensive input system that HUD requires of their designated agencies. Centers for Independent Living in particular have often not been part of the HUD planning process. It is difficult to say whether this is a result of an information deficit or simply overwhelming responsibilities. At any rate the Department of Housing and Community Development is about to begin a series of input session that require the presence of PWDs and the groups that represent them. Arron Sorkin wrote that decisions are made by those who show up.

DHCD is holding public input sessions for Virginia’s Action Plan for HOME Investment Partnership (HOME), Emergency Shelter Grants (ESG) and Housing Opportunities for People with AIDS (HOPWA) funding for the 2005-06 federal fiscal year. These sessions will help guide the allocation of these grant funds for the coming year. For more information, please contact Johnette Mallory-Pullen or 804-371-7117
