We Need Item 289 …. And We Got It !!!
TODAY, Virginia's 2006-2008 Biennial Budget includes a new program for people living with HIV/AIDS in Virginia and have Medicare Part D. Item 289 will help maintain their HIV medications. Item 289 provides $300,000 each year (that's all!) to create State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program (SPAP).

Please, write to your Delegate and Senator today — and THANK THEM for supporting Item 289 - the SPAP program.
As Diana Jordan at the State's Health Department said in late May, "Funding for the State Pharmaceutical Assistance Program (SPAP) would provide much needed assistance with Medicare Part D cost sharing for low-income people with HIV and AIDS. Assistance through an SPAP would enable these individuals to access the full coverage level of the Part D benefit. By fully utilizing the new Part D benefit, access to medications will improve for this population and scarce ADAP resources can be conserved to serve the remaining clients in need. This is particularly important in light of the recent federal ADAP funding cut."
